As
a little girl growing up in a religious Ohio family, I idolized Julie
Andrews. Always knew I wanted to sing, just didn't know how crazy/wonderful
the world of rock 'n roll would be. Had a couple of records on the
dance charts in the late 80's. Performed in a punk art-rock band
called Peter and the Girlfriends (I was Peter) and got my BFA in
Theater at Denison U. . . Called Westport Ct home in the teenage
years and met and married my super cool husband when we filmed
a music video together. Big things in my life are "breathing", sailing,
amazing friends and my path as a spiritual seeker. Four kids later
(I was a baby pig) found my way from Tribeca, in New York City,
to the Westchester suburbs and voila' -- the rest is "Housewives"
history.

A few years ago I had a wish to do something that challenged me
and helped me step out of normal day to day life. Along came my
cousin Joy and the women in Housewives. They gave me the chance
to be a part of their circle of friendship and music. I love the
band and feel truly blessed. I am a bit of a thrill seeker - Eric,
Sher, Mom & Dad, my friends who are family, and my family who
are friends, my little dog Zee all encourage me to keep jumping out
of planes, but reminding me to wear a parachute! You can find me
either on my knees, or in the air! Downhill skiing, playing music, diggin'
Vermont and the cabin, napping under the apple tree, exploring life,
and reminding myself: "It's all about love...and to keep it simple."

I'm originally from Bucks County Pa. where my family, and part
of my heart still reside. After school, I came to NYC to play music
and figure out how to survive. Since then, I've enjoyed many musical
experiences as well as getting into motorcycle riding, baking bread,
setting up my home studio and hanging out with my cat Cleo. I'm
definitely a flower child of sorts and playing with "my" Housewives
brings that quality out in me more than any other area of my life.

I was born slightly shorter than my current 6'2". I fell in love
with kids and decided one should never lose the "monkey inside".
. . so I work in school administration and try to have a positive
influence on the kids around me. I'm notoriously upbeat. My good
friends call me "Bird", as in Big Bird. I'm totally kooky and
my specialty is keeping Joy in stitches -- especially on stage.
I toured as 'Ms. Frizzle' in The Magic School Bus before becoming
a teacher, which led me to my current job. . . . now, I dream of
Prozac.

The Housewife's Lament
About the play - A downtown Peter Blue is a gender-confused punk
rocker who thought he/she was on her way home when, trapped in a
suburban kitchen with four children - boredom, bad hair, and a nagging
need to reclaim her MTV glory days, propel her to escape. Aided by
her assorted batch of mismatched Housewives, this disheveled diva
visits the Fairy Godmother, who tells her, during a Chemotherapy
induced haze, the only way to find herself is to lose herself.
The ensuing twisted trip is not a romp thru candyland, but a misadventure
which leads where all great misadventures lead - The Truth. The
essence of the dream. The epic and highly fashionable adventure
of seven women's journey from outer fame, to inner fame. To the
stage, to the kitchen, to the stage and back again.
Inspiration struck Joy Rose in 1997 when she made the move from
Soho, N.Y. City to the suburbs. Landing with a thud, Joy was shocked
to find a diminished sense of zest and fun was status quo. Committed
to reaching out to mothers who seemed just a little too obsessed
with soccer and shopping, she figured what better way to juice
things up, than to summon rock 'n roll mom to the rescue. "Housewives
on Prozac" subsequently stormed clubs, theaters, local and
national television.
Her first album "No Prescription Required" reflects Ms. Roses'
unusually quirky brand of humor and wicked sex appeal. The songs
embody the sweet/sour poignancy and humor of being an outrageous
mid-life rocker straddling two worlds and raising a family in
the now millennium.
Joy Rose has been singing in the New York Club scene since the
early eighties. She performed as a man with her first band "Peter
and the Girlfriends". Often compared to the Velvet Underground,
the Girlfriends enjoyed cult-like success in the downtown post-punk
art-rock scene. Going solo in 1984, Joy recorded "in And Out Of
Love Affairs" with Chris Lord and Roscoe Mercer of WKTU fame. "In
And Out" was an MTV Basement Tape winner and went on to appear on the
Billboard Dance Charts. "Sexual Voodoo' was released in 1988 on
Dice Records and enjoyed a long life as an underground dance
hit before charting on the Billboard Top 100 Dance Picks. Joy
has sung backup with The System, People Failing and others,
in addition to writing jingles for for film and video. In 1999
Joy wrote and starred in the world premiere of an original Equity
production; A rock musical entitled 'Shut Up And Drive'. This production
was driven by a fabulously talented lineup of first rate New
York musicians who have gone on to become what is the core of
an ever-evolving louder more exuberant version of "Housewives"
(Think "Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert").
"The Housewife's Lament" showcases Joy Rose and her rollicking bandmates
in a deliciously dark musical tale of of seven women's domestic
desperation, as they don black glitter lipstick, garters and
whips for this wickedly twisted, humorous take on life in the
middle of everything.
